Training objectives and competence levels

Clear, realistic objectives to monitor your progress
Our syllabuses are structured in six levels that you complete at your own pace.

The stages are based on the Common European Reference Framework for Languages established by the Council of Europe. Below are those stages paraphrased:

Stage A1: A student can understand and use everyday expressions and use basic phrases for certain tasks. The student can interact in a basic way provided Spanish is spoken slowly and clearly to them.

Stage A2: A student can understand sentences and frequently used expressions. He/she can describe in simple terms information about his/her background and immediate needs.

Learner studies for approximately 30 hours to complete the first two levels.  

Stage B1: A student can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where Spanish is spoken. He/she can describe experiences and events, hopes and ambitions and can give brief explanations for opinions or plans.

Learner studies for approximately 30 hours.

Stage B2: A student can understand the main areas of complex text relating to both familiar and abstract matters. He/she can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular conversation with native speakers possible without a strain on either party.

Learner studies for approximately 60 hours.

Stage C1: A student can express himself or herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for words or expressions. The student can produce clear, well-structured and detailed text on complex subjects.

Learner studies for at least 120 hours.

Stage C2: A student can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. He/she can express ideas both fluently and spontaneously at the same time as differentiating the finer shades of meaning.
