Led by Gustavo Santaolalla, this collective of composers, singers and artists from Argentina and Uruguay produce a fusion of acoustic tango and electronic music, part of an evolving genre which is known as Electrotango or Tango Fusion or an innovative form of Drum 'n' Bass, house, chill out and trip-hop which is greatly helping to bring tango back into the mainstream.

Armendáriz is a rebel leader whos falls for one of his captives, fiery aristocrat María Félix, and the plot turns briefly into Taming of the Shrew until nationalist passions take precedence once again. It is the magnificent luminosity of Figueroa's black-and-white photography that makes this otherwise standard revolutionary melodrama special, exquisitely capturing Mexico's unique light and baroque arquitecture. Enamoraa is also a fine example of the country's most creative period of fimmaking.

La Influencia presents its audience with a single mother living in a suburb of Madrid, going about her business, running a pharmacy and trying to do best by her two children. It soon becomes clear that she cannot cope with any of this, and her mental health gradually deteriorates. The film is a depiction of the ordinariness of depression that is totally devoid of histrionics and is deeply affecting, a realist horror show addressing pertinent issues around how society reacts to thos with psychological problems.

The inhabitants of Melo, a small Uruguayan town bordering Brazil, make their living as best they can, but business is not booking and the customs police exact a hard price for turning a blind eye to illegal border traffic. Then news comes through that Pope John Paul II is visiting and many seize the opportunity to capitalise on this once in a life time opportunity - crowds of 50,000 to flood in for the visit. For Beto this involves investing the family's meagre savings in the contruction of a toilet that will service the tourists during their time in the town.

Ana leads a sheltered existence with her father on Ibiza. Then a mysterious philanthropist, Justine, stumbes on her artwork and invites her to Madrid to develop as a painter sharing a house with young artists that she is supporting. Here she meets Said, a Berber refugee, and suddenly their passioonatie relationship leads to the discovery of others past lifes that Ana appears to have had. Ana begings to question who she is and her journey takes her across eras and continents on a voyage that goes far beyond self-discovery.

Matilde gives up her medical career to enter a convent and Linda has an anorexic mother, Elena, obsessed with her apperance and apalled at her young daugher's supposed excess weight. Elena embarks on a mission to ensure that Linda loses weight whatever the consequences on her daughter's self-esteem or her own marriage. Simon Bross, on of Mexico's most succesful ad directors, makes his feature debut with an atmospheric treatment of food and the anxieties that govern our consumption of it. The film is also a reflection on excess and abstinence that avoids dogmatic messages, while offering forceful observations on contemporary society's problematic relationship with food.

Julio Arreta runs a company specialising in film extras. They come in all shape and sizes and cater for all tastes and demands. No job is too tricky, no project too daunting. Only this isn't a comapny based in central Buenos Aires, but rather in one of the city's less affluent areas where Arreta offers the inhabitants a way of making a living by looking up at the stars in more ways than one.
