Film: Carancho, British Film Institute, South Bank, London
Trapero's latest film grips like a vice from begining to end. It stars
as a blend of raw social drama and tender love story, as
ambulance-chasing insurante lawyer Darín and idealistic young doctor
Gusman meet at a traffic accident, but then, as they try to sort out
their respective problems, the film steadily turns into a taut,
noir-inflected thriller. Predicably fine performances from the two leads
are couched within Trapero's impressively edgy, urgent mise-en-scene to
dynamic effect.
Dir. Pablo Trapero, Argentina-France-Chile-South Korea 2010, 107 min.
